Affirmations for Authentic Expression: A Spiritual Practice

Attention musicians, artists, dancers, writers and every other creative type…

Have you ever felt a profound sense of peace, focus, or even divine connection when you’re completely absorbed in a creative act? Whether it’s the stroke of a paintbrush, the melody flowing from an instrument, the rhythm of your dance, or the words taking shape on a page, acts of self-expression can be so much more than just hobbies. They can be a powerful spiritual discipline, cultivating a deeper, more intimate relationship with God.

For me personally, it’s playing the guitar. When my fingers are on the fretboard, my mind quiets, and I find a beautiful sense of order. It keeps me rooted in the present moment and my hands busy. Now, while you won’t find the exact saying, “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop” in the Bible, you will find plenty of verses that talk about avoiding laziness and idleness, encouraging us to use our time and talents wisely.

Creative self-expression, at its heart, demands self-discipline. It’s in the repetitive and consistent practice – the dedication to honing our craft – that we experience genuine personal growth. This growth, in turn, breeds self-confidence and, most importantly, brings glory to God by faithfully stewarding the unique gifts He has so graciously given us. This helps us fulfill the command in 1 Peter 4:10, which states, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

Here, then, are fifteen affirmations to help you develop a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for the gifts God has given you, along with the encouragement to keep expressing yourself through these gifts as a way of deepening your faith in God while serving others.

Affirmations, along with their biblical reference are listed below. In addition to the list, I have prepared this guided affirmation video for you. I’ll guide you through these fifteen powerful affirmations designed to help you:

  • ✅ Embrace your unique, God-given gifts with confidence and purpose.
  • ✅ Cultivate discipline and consistency in your creative practice.
  • ✅ Serve others and share God’s grace through your talents.
  • ✅ Deepen your faith and connection to your Creator.

Each affirmation is displayed on screen, giving you time to reflect or repeat it to yourself. This isn’t just about making art—it’s about making a worshipful offering with your life.

10 Affirmations for Spiritual Strength during the Holidays

If you need spiritual strength for the holidays to get you through those challenging times, then these ten Bible-based affirmations to stay grounded during the holidays is for you!

If you’re struggling with the chaos of the season – the long lines at the checkout, the heavy traffic or the crowds in general, these affirmations for spiritual strength and peace of mind will help you stay strong, as well as help you be a great Christ-like example during the holidays.

Along with each affirmation is the scripture it is based on. At the end of this list, these affirmations are provided in narrated video format. Enjoy!

1. As God’s chosen, I put on compassion, kindness, humility and gentleness.

From Colossians 3:12, which says, “Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance”

2. I make it my goal to live at peace with all men and women.

This is based on Romans 12:18, which says, “As much as you can, live in peace with everyone.”

3. I do to others as I would have them do to me.

This is based off of the Golden Rule, which Jesus gave us in Matthew 7:12, which says, “Therefore, whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets.”

4. I am not easily angered or provoked.

There are several verses in the bible about anger and being provoked. This affirmation could be based off of any of those verses. Several that come to mind are Ecclesiastes 7:9, Galatians 5:26 and 1 Corinthians 13:5. Together they say, “Don’t be hasty in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools. Let’s not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another. [Love] doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil.”

5. I am careful in the way I behave and the example I set.

Based on Colossians 4:5 and 1 Timothy 4:12.

6. I serve others with a joyful and generous heart.

This one is based on 1 Peter 4:10, which states, “As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.” Serving others, especially during the holidays, is a way to express Christ-like love and generosity.

7. I only say what is helpful to others, that it may benefit those who listen.

We get this one from Ephesians 4:29, which saith thus, “Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

8. I bear with others and forgive them, as God has forgiven me.

This one is coming in hot from Colossians 3:13, boldly proclaiming, “bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.”

9. I consider others’ needs and interests above my own.

A classic. Brought to you by, you guessed it, Philippeans 2:3-4, flexing these words: “doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.”

10. I give thanks in all circumstances.

Last, but by certainly no means least (though, he would claim he was), the apostle Paul encourages us with these words of exhortation in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.”

Well, there you have it, my top ten bible-based affirmations for surviving and thriving during the holidays! But wait, don’t go, as I mentioned previously, there is also a guided meditation video that I’ve created with these very self-same affirmations! And you don’t have to go looking all over the internet for it. It’s right here…
